“Your city/state (local spot)?” My answer, Friendship Fountain!

September 22, 2011

Friendship Fountain originally opened a few months before I was born (1965, yes I’m that old) for a cost of $1.7 million.  At the time, it was considered the world’s largest and tallest fountain making it a tourist favorite.  It has been a fixture in downtown Jacksonville ever since.  It sits proudly on the bank of the St. Johns River overlooking the Main Street Bridge, the Jacksonville Landing and all the majestic buildings of downtown.  When I was a kid, this fountain always reminded me of the spinner thing on the game of Life.

It recently underwent a $3.1 million dollar restoration, reopening in June, 2011.    This was the first time I’ve seen it since it opened and I will say that I was pleased with the results.  Enjoy!  (((CLICK IMAGE TO ENLARGE)))

At Ground Level – Assignment Complete

November 9, 2009

I found some great opportunities for ground level shots while visiting the Jacksonville Agricultural Fair.

The rest…

And one of my favorite subjects, Lily….

Capture the essense of fall – assignment

October 16, 2009

I’d taken a little break from the photo assignments but hope that I’m back in full force.   Stay tuned…Well, here we go.  Fall in Florida is not quite the same as it is in other parts of the country.  First I spent the early afternoon at Alpine Grove Park for a little nature stuff and then stopped at a pumpkin patch on the way home.

On to the pumpkins…..

Don’t love the light on this one  – it was under a tent.

And Indian corn

Small part of something larger – assignment complete (sort of)

September 7, 2009

Well I don’t currently have a lens that lends itself to small part of flowers etc.  I just can focus that close.  So I had to think bigger and out of the box a bit. I went back to the Main Street Bridge (used in my show motion assignment).  I decided to shoot a single rivet or a single lattice beam on a great big bridge.  _DSC1517

And just for grins….Lily’s nose (small part of a bigger dog)

Bug-a-Boo…assignment complete.

August 30, 2009

Well I had a little trouble with getting the focus and light just the way I wanted it on this one but managed to get a few decent shots.  I need to work on shooting quicker. I missed a lot of butterfly shots because they moved out of my focal range too quickly.

Reflections and Shadows – Assignment Complete

August 24, 2009

I love this one of Lily because you can clearly see me in her eyes taking the photo.

And Shadows…

This last shot is not the one I wanted to use.  I had a much better, richer image but after uploading and inserting it no less than 10 times only to have it show up distorted and rotated, I gave up and choose another image.

Color my world

August 7, 2009

This week’s assignment is all about color.  We are to pick a color (any color) and shoot things that fall into that color.  Post top 5 shots.

I have lots of ideas on this one, weather permitting. Stay tuned.
